After we recently reported that the Mall of Berlin will be expanded starting in September to include a popular discount store and an XXL supermarket, and that a popular Italian restaurant and an XXL Rossmann store will be moving into the Kranzler Eck, we already have the next round of news. ALDI Nord is focusing on expansion and modernization in 2026: Across Germany, the company plans to open up to 20 additional stores . At the same time, more than 140 further expansion projects are planned .

ALDI Nord is planning numerous changes to its store network in Berlin in the coming years. For 2026 and 2027, the initial plans include two additional locations, 14 expansions or modernizations of existing stores, and one relocation. Expansion is set to continue beyond that. For the period from 2028 to 2030, ALDI Nord plans to open five additional locations in Berlin and expand ten existing stores. This means that between 2026 and 2030, a total of seven new locations, one relocation, and 24 revitalizations are planned for Berlin.
An important component of the Berlin expansion strategy is the combination of ALDI Nord stores and new residential space. According to the company, approximately 500 apartments have already been built or are under construction in Berlin over the past ten years as part of such mixed-use projects. In the coming years, additional projects could add another 350 apartments.
A current example is taking shape on Weinstraße in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. There, the cornerstone for a mixed-use building was laid on July 13, 2026. The plans include 69 rental apartments and a new ALDI Nord store. The project is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2028. This concept has also already been implemented at Sewanstraße 259 in Lichtenberg. A modernized ALDI Nord store opened there in May 2026. At the same time , 136 new apartments were built on the property , 48 of which receive permanent housing subsidies.

Several specific construction and modernization projects in various Berlin districts have also been announced. At Gerichtstraße 2–3 in Wedding, the old ALDI store was demolished and replaced with a new building. The retail space is set to grow from around 800 to approximately 900 square meters . Planned features include, among other things, a photovoltaic system and a heat recovery system.
At Hultschiner Damm 140–142 in Marzahn-Hellersdorf , the original plan for a complete replacement buildinghas sincebeen abandoned. Instead, the existing ALDI store will be expanded with a ground-floor addition. The existing youth recreation center at the site will be preserved. On Weinstraße in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg , a completely new ALDI Nord store is being built in combination with the 69 apartments mentioned earlier. The project is expected to be completed in early 2028.
