Get out of the city and into an almost cinematic summer setting! All around Berlin, you can experience pure idyll, from a Mediterranean-inspired lakeside oasis to a picturesque Hanseatic town on a real island. And that’s not all: about 1.5 hours north of Berlin, you’ll reach Lindow. This small town in the Ruppiner Seenland is best known for being practically nestled between three lakes.

Lindow is situated between Lake Wutz, Lake Gudelack, and Lake Vielitz. This makes the town seem almost like a small island surrounded by lakes, bridges, and lakeside paths. Especially in summer, a very peaceful, romantic atmosphere emerges there, with plenty of water, small boats, swimming spots, and old brick houses.
The real highlight of the town is the ruins of the former Cistercian convent right on Lake Wutz. The convent was founded as early as the 13th century and shaped the town’s development for centuries. Today, parts of the medieval walls and ruins still stand right by the water, giving the place an almost fairy-tale-like atmosphere. It is precisely the combination of the lake landscape, historic ruins, nature, and medieval history that makes Lindow so special. The old convent walls are partially reflected directly in the water and create an extremely atmospheric scene, especially at sunset or in the fog.

Lake Gudelack is also particularly popular. In the middle of the lake lies the small island of Werder, which you can even reach by passenger boat in the summer. That’s exactly what makes this place even more extraordinary than many other lakeside towns around Berlin. Small passenger boats, quiet lakeside paths, wooded landscapes, and the island in the middle of the water give the trip an almost nostalgic feel.
Lindow is also known for its peaceful hiking and pilgrimage atmosphere. Numerous trails wind around the lakes through forests, reed beds, and small stretches of shoreline. The walking path along Lake Wutzsee, in particular, is considered one of the most beautiful in the area. Thanks to the mix of water, forest, medieval history, and tranquil atmosphere , the landscape feels almost Scandinavian or Nordic-romantic in places.
