For most of us,going to the movies means popcorn and snacks while we watch our favorite movie. A full-fledged dinner isn’t usually part of the experience. But Berlin has come up with something special: In an extraordinary cinema concept, you experience movies as a dinner show and are served not just one main course, but a full 16-course meal. While the movie is playing, the corresponding dishes are brought directly to your seat. Each course is inspired by the events on screen and captures the film’s atmosphere through its flavors. This transforms a classic movie night into an experience where you don’t just watch your favorite movie—you also taste it.

The concept thus combines cinema, fine dining, and an immersive experience. Instead of popcorn, you’ll enjoy a menu tailored to the respective film, guiding you through the plot with culinary delights. The Movie2Menu experience for “Spirited Away” is particularly elaborate . This Studio Ghibli classic by Hayao Miyazaki is accompanied by a 16-course meal. As Chihiro journeys through the mysterious spirit world, the individual dishes are served to match the various scenes and draw on elements from the film.
Even small details from the story find their way onto the table. These include, for example, the little soot sprites that fans recognize from the film. In this way, the story isn’t just told on the screen—it’s also brought to life through food. The film itself runs about 125 minutes and tells the story of ten-year-old Chihiro, who, along with her parents, enters a magical spirit world through a mysterious tunnel. After her parents are enchanted, Chihiro must work at the bathhouse run by the witch Yubaba and prove herself there to save her family.
The Movie2Menu program changes regularly and is tailored to each selected film. In addition to “Spirited Away,” other films that have been or will be featured as dinner experiences include “Sex and the City,” “Harry Potter,” “Home Alone,” and “Ratatouille.” “Ratatouille” is, of course, a particularly fitting choice—after all, the Pixar film is all about the love of cooking and good food. The story centers on Remy, a rat with a passion for cooking who dreams of working as a chef in Paris. “Sex and the City” also lends itself wonderfully to a culinary experience; after all, restaurants, cocktails, parties, and New York City’s nightlife play an important role in the story of Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte.

The current Movie2Menu events are taking place at studio32 in Berlin. For the “Spirited Away” experience, dates have been announced for September 20 and October 2, 2026, among others. On October 2, for example, the event begins at 6:30 p.m.
For the currently available experience featuring “Spirited Away,” a ticket costs 158.54 euros. This includes the dinner experience with the film and the accompanying menu. Movie2Menu is therefore intended more as a special dining experience or an extraordinary gift than as a traditional trip to the movies.
