With the arrival of summer, new dining hotspots are opening in Berlin where you don’t have to retreat indoors but can enjoy the warm days and beautiful surroundings outdoors. While the Café am Neuen See has long been one of the city’s classics, there are also hidden gardens and green backyards right in the heart of Berlin that are perfect forbrunch or a relaxed coffee get-together . One of these is Café Garten Mitte. Hidden away in the middle of Berlin’s bustling Mitte district is a small green oasis that many people haven’t even discovered yet.

Opened just in the spring of 2026 , the café on Joachimstraße has already become one of the capital’s most beautiful new hangouts. Nestled among vegetable patches, old trees, and cozy seating areas, the place feels more like a hidden garden in the countryside than a café in the heart of Berlin.
Behind the concept are Michael Hummel and Famke Schröter, who met while working at a renowned Berlin bakery. Together, they brought to life the idea of a café that combines high-quality baked goods, specialty coffee, and a green retreat .
The café is particularly well-known for its homemade sourdough breads, fresh pastries, cakes, and cookies. The menu is seasonal and offers not only baked goods but also rotating brunch and lunch dishes. Many ingredients come directly from the café’s own garden or are sourced regionally and organically. Vegetarian and vegan options are also a regular part of the menu.

Coffee lovers will also find plenty to enjoy here. The café collaborates with various specialty coffee roasters from Europe and serves not only classic coffee specialties but also matcha and other seasonal drinks.
The heart of the café, however, is the adjacent garden. Surrounded by herbs, vegetable beds, and large, shady trees, guests sit amidst the greenery and quickly forget that they’re in the center of a metropolis. It’s precisely this blend of urban life and a natural atmosphere that makes Garten Mitte so special.
The café is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and is already one of the most popular new spots for brunch and coffee in Berlin-Mitte.
