On July 24 and 25, Berlin experienced the ideal escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life at Britzer Garten. The Water Lantern Festival Berlin 2026 was the perfect blend of a relaxed get-together, a street food market, and pure magic.
Together , hundreds of glowing, inscribed lanterns glided across the dark waters of the lake. An incomparable, magical experience!
That was the Water Lantern Festival Berlin 2026
The sun slowly set over Berlin, the sky turned shades of purple and orange, and friends, couples, and dates enjoyed a magical evening on the shore. As soon as twilight set in, hundreds of lanterns—each individually and lovingly designed— were set adrift on the water —inspired by the famous Chiang Mai Festival in Thailand!
Each lantern carried a personal message: wishes, dreams, hopes, affirmations, or memories of loved ones. Did you let your message float across the water, too? A breathtaking sea of lights emerged, lighting up the night.
The Vibe: Music, Food & Community
The festival began in the late afternoon and offered a full program of feel-good activities. Before the lanterns were set adrift, attendees could sample the delicious offerings from local Berlin food trucks!
Live music from local singer-songwriters and indie bands provided the perfect soundtrack in Britzer Garten.
Don’t worry: sustainability was a top priority
The festival team knows how important it is to protect our waterways and therefore made sustainability a top priority. After the event, every single lantern was retrieved from the water. The lanterns were made of biodegradable rice paper and untreated wood. So the spectacle could be enjoyed with a clear conscience.
