2025 was a mixed year: between ups and downs, we fought our way through the months. Even one of Berlin’s most legendary techno clubs was not spared. Back in August 2024, it was announced that Wilde Renate in Berlin-Friedrichshain would have to close in 2025 due to its lease expiring. This was compounded by an unexpected major fire in June of this year, during which the fire department was deployed for hours to extinguish meter-high flames. This came at the worst possible time – just before the club’s biggest weekend of the year, which was also on the verge of being canceled. Fortunately, however, the program was able to continue as planned the very next day. The popularity of the “Renate” didn’t suffer at all: with its labyrinthine structure and wild house party atmosphere, its impending closure was already widely mourned. But then came the ultimate plot twist yesterday: the club announced on its website and Instagram on Thursday that the lease had been extended – and that the “Renate” will remain open in 2026!

The English statement on Instagram states that an agreement was reached on December 16 to continue the venue’s lease and thus secure a long-term future for the club. However, the end of the “Wilde Renate” had already been decided, which is why the club will still have to close after the New Year’s Eve party. There will be a break to revise organizational processes, reorganize the team and make important improvements to the club. The date for the reopening has not yet been set.
A recent press release also states that the announcement of the club’s closure was the result of an emotional situation. The “Renate” team apologizes to the owner of the property. Following the publication, talks were held with the owner and agreement was finally reached on extending the club’s operations.
