The Meistersaal in Berlin can look back on a long history as a historic recording room and event venue. It was inaugurated in 1913 and initially served as a ballroom for the awarding of master craftsmen’s certificates to journeymen. It later became famous as Studio 2 of the Hansa recording studios. In the 1970s, this location experienced a rebirth with the arrival of the Hansa recording studio and received its much-needed renovation. The Meistersaal was converted into a recording studio and renamed Studio 2.

After its transformation into Studio 2, the Meistersaal achieved worldwide fame. Renowned artists found a creative center for their work in its rooms. David Bowie christened the hall “The Big Hall by the Wall” and used it to record his albums “Low” and “Heroes”. Iggy Pop’s albums “The Idiot” and “Lust For Life” were also recorded here in the same years, as were several works by Depeche Mode between 1983 and 1986.
