Big ideas often start small. This is probably how you could describe the idea behind the Ogrosen community. In this tranquil village with a few thousand inhabitants lies an estate that today stands for a successful combination of historical heritage and ecological vision. For Berliners who like to spend their free time at second-hand markets and sustainable restaurants, the Ogrosen estate offers just the right kind of short getaway.

The Ogrosen estate community is located between Berlin and Dresden in the Niederlausitzer Landrücken Nature Park and on the edge of the Spreewald. In addition to the Ogrosen estate farm, there is the Schafgarbe dairy sheep farm and the goat farm at the Ogrosen estate. All three work closely together and are considered a showcase project for modern, sustainable agriculture.
The idea behind the community is to run a historic manor not as a purely private property, but as a living organism. Since 1991, a group of people has come together here to combine organic production, craftsmanship, and solidarity. The group has even taken electricity generation into its own hands and installed solar panels on the roof of the estate.
Short break on the farm

The Ogrosen estate operates according to organic guidelines. It is home to several families and individuals, but also serves as a meeting place for visitors. They show how rural areas can be revitalized through community spirit and ecological awareness.
The farm is also home to 120 dairy cows and around 30 pigs. And over 420 hectares of pasture and over 100 hectares of forest are used! The farm’s own seeds are processed in the small oil mill, and the milk is processed directly on site into high-quality products in the farm’s own cheese dairy.
If you want to stay longer, get to know the farm and the famous surrounding nature, or just want to relax in the countryside for a few days, you can even stay overnight here. The estate has four vacation apartments available for you. It’s also a great place to celebrate: the event café with kitchen and wood-burning stove is equipped for up to 30 people. You can find more information on the estate’s website.
