All information about the new circuit
After 9 Grands Prix from 1968 to 1981 at the Circuito del Jarama, Madrid is now back in the race – this time with a new street circuit and a contract until 2035. For decades, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has shaped the history of the Spanish Grand Prix, hosting numerous Formula 1 highlights since 1991. The new circuit in the capital will now bring a breath of fresh air to the F1 calendar and plenty of variety. It is likely that Madrid will completely replace the traditional circuit in Catalonia when its contract ends in 2026, but two Spanish Grands Prix will be held next year.
Madrid’s new MADRING race track runs around the IFEMA congress center in Madrid. It is a hybrid circuit that combines public road sections with specially built segments. The circuit is 5.47 km long and comprises 22 bends over 57 laps. A particular highlight is turn 13, “La Monumental”, which poses a major challenge for the drivers with a 500-meter-long banked turn and a gradient of 24%. There are already 110,000 seats available for fans – with the prospect of expanding capacity even further in the future.
Visitors benefit from excellent public transport connections and numerous parking facilities at the exhibition grounds. IFEMA is only around 11 km from the city center and is easily accessible via metro line 8 (airport line), which stops directly at its own station “Feria de Madrid”. You could therefore get off at IFEMA directly after arriving at the airport.
The fascination of Formula 1®
Formula 1® originated from the European Grand Prix races of the 1920s and 1930s. After the Second World War, the FIA defined standardized rules for the first time in 1946, “Formula A”, which became Formula 1. The first official world championship race took place in Silverstone in 1950, with Giuseppe Farina securing victory.
In the decades that followed, legends such as Juan Manuel Fangio, Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton left their mark on the series. Formula 1 established itself as the premier class of motorsport and became an international sensation. Today, it combines technology, strategy and speed and continues to thrill fans all over the world.
